The pitfalls of a democratic system

abrahams.jpgBONG! The Spectator CoffeeHouse and the new Telegraph blog, Three Line Whip, agree that the Gord can't sack Harman even if he wanted to as she was democratically elected by the membership, and it would be up to them to decide whether to remove her. As deputy leader, the Labour Party constitution states she must have a Cabinet role. P'rhaps he could "promote" her to Secretary of State for the new Department of Wearing Nice Shoes And Sitting Next To Gordon In PMQs? You give us problems, Westmonster finds solutions.

BONG! Speaking of promotions, the media are widely agreed that after Vince Cable's "Mr Bean" gag, he should be appointed King of Comedy forthwith. The Three Line Whip (and again here), CoffeeHouse, and Boulton and Co. are all - between loud guffaws - committed to referring to joke as often as possible. Why, one might almost suggest that there was an agenda here.

BONG! That having been said, could Vince Cable under different circumstances been the "Francis Urquhart" candidate in the LibDem leadership battle?

BONG! And, in case you missed it, Chris Huhne's called the cops.

Think he could make DL a cabinet post with some thrown together portfolio? But what he could do as despite the illusion it's not elected is ask her to cease being "Chair" of the party. This being the role in which she has possibly stuffed up.

Huhne's so Buff innit? Didn't the cops say: "Oh go away you sanctimonious tosser!"? That's what I heard and I was in a police station today.

Who was that LibDem (MEP possibly?) who spent years lighting up spliffs outside the local cop-shop in an attempt to get arrested and demonstrate the ridiculous nature of the cannabis laws as he saw them?

The police kept moving him on IIRC.

Give him a week and H. will start referring to his "moral compass."

What is this cobblers about the Labour Party Constitution and government positions? Chapter and verse please. Gordon may not be able to sack her as Deputy Leader. But she has allowed herself to be patronised as 'Chair of the Labour Party' - a fictious position in the first place - so scope for wielding the axe there, plus Leader of the House, Minister for Equalities and Minister for Women - all in the gift of the Prime Minister under our slavish deference in the Labour Party in Government to the Royal Prerogative.

Peter - I've engaged my brain and of course you're right; that's why Cruddas ran on a "no position" ticket.

Many apologies, I will amend tomorrow.
