Has Lord West (been) disappeared?

Was that a tremor in the Force?

This morning Big Tent member Admiral Lord West (whose report on security in busy public locations is published later) gave an interview to the Today programme in which he appeared to merrily deviate from the Government line on the extension of 28-day detention.

It would transpire that actually he was misreported and everyone who heard him say, "56 days is a bloody long time innit, and I've yet to be persuaded, frankly" several times over the airwaves ... is mistaken.

According to a statement subsequently issued by the Home Office, what he really said was, "I support our Glorious Leader in all things. To him we turn our faces, as do flowers to the luminous sun. There is no disagreement. I love longer detention periods."

Phew! Glad that's cleared up.
