Ministry for Moules Frites
Another day in Europeland
The Tories' crowing over the Morning of the Election that Wasn't was marred slightly by a poster seemingly committing the Tories to a retrospective referendum on the EU Treaty The story so far: Davy gave a "cast iron" guarantee to The People that he would offer them this and then swiftly and quietly backtracked when he worked out it was a shite idea.
Ben Brogran decides to find out if Cameron is signalling another change in policy:
"The point the poster is making is that if there had been an election today and if the Conservatives had been elected we would have had a referendum," I'm told.
Sounds a like a bit of a strangled explanation to us. Red faces all round, eh? In other (but related news) Westmonster was perplexed at this story in the Guardian which appears to be implying that during the three long months of debate on the EU Treaty none of us will necessarily be allowed the opportunity to, you know, see what it says.
This can't be right, shurely?
