Ministry for Administrative Affairs

Packing up for prorogation

Westmonster reckons that this week is the last full week before the House is prorogued in advance of the Queen's speech, so there's lots of excitement involving carry-over motions and stuff. Contain yourselves. Anyway, full itinerary here, and the edited highlights appear below:

Oral PQs

  • Monday: Defence
  • Tuesday: Trasport; Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster
  • Wednesday: Justice; Prime Minister
  • Thursday: Environment, Food and Rural Affairs; Solicitor General.

Important stuff

  • The Gord is giving a statement on Monday after PQs on the outcome of the European Council meeting. Expect this one to be lively, folks!
  • Muchly considering Lords' amendments on Thursday. The Legal Services Bill is currently in transit between the two Houses along with a bunch of other legislation that the Government want to crow bar through before prorogation.

May be of interest

  • Vince Cable at PMQs on Wednesday. Meh.
  • Linda Waltho has a debate on Dudley library closures on Thursday. It's worth watching these things just to remind yourself that in spite of the crap politicians get about "not listening to people", they really really do try! Poor Linda will be speaking to an empty Grand Committee Room with only a disgruntled Minister (who wanted to be in the pub half an hour ago) for company.

Private Members' Bills

The House isn't sitting on Friday, so Ten Minute Rule Bills only:

  • Tuesday: Packaging (Reduction) Bill, Jo Swinson;
  • Wednesday: Grandparents (Rights of Access) Bill, Ian Cawsey.
