While You Were Sleeping

Old sins have long shadows

  • The Times on the rivalry of the two leading candidates for the LibDem crown. Apparently Chris Huhne and Nicky Clegg were best buds until Chucky K. stepped down in 2005 and the United Federation of Young Turks agreed that nobody would stand against Ming, giving him a clear run. At the last minute, nasty sneak Huhne slipped his nomination form in and was all "L-O-S-E-R" to Nicky who vowed that - how ever long it and whatever it took - one day he'd be milk monitor. Er, leader. We meant leader.
  • Brod blog's reports on the catastrophic events of the last few days.
  • Westmonster is disappointed that she missed the European Scrutiny Committee meeting yesterday. It appeared to be a hotbed of insania (debates about what "will" means) and fury (as our brethren in the tabs define any minor disagreement) about comparisons between Miliband the Younger and Neville Chamberlain.
  • Tom Watson on John Hemming's bid for ultimate power.
  • John Angliss gives us a much needed translation of those Tory policy proposals.
  • In the week that Beeb employees discover which 2,000 of them are for the chop, it's nice to know that the money that cannot be spent on their wages or delivering decent programming has gone to a good cause.
  • Daniel Finkelstein starts channelling Guido over the proposed reforms to rules governing charities, but doesn't start screaming that everyone agin his argument is either "gay" or an Agent of the Labour Party (both of which, in Guido Land are Very Bad, just so you know). It's like a different world.
  • Swearing is good for morale in the workplace, according to the Telegraph. Fucking right it is.
  • The ever-wonderful spEak You're bRanes treats Guardian reader-style econo-snobbery to a round of rapid fire.
