Mercer moves outside the big tent and takes aim

mercer.jpg Well done to Iain Dale (whose eyes, unlike Westmonster's, are presumably not impeded by a roaring hangover) who notices that quasi-defector Patrick Mercer has left the Big Tent.

Mercer, who Brown had appointed his Advisor on the Third Pillar Box From the Left on Kings' Street or somesuch bollocks, had previously been fired from the shadow front bench after making some ill-thought out remarks about life in the army.

It has been suggested to Westmonster that Mercer was so angry at his treatment he would have sold his soul to Satan himself (or worse, the Gord) to cause trouble for Dave, to the extent that there was even talk of him joining the comrades a few weeks ago.

Nonetheless, with all the talk of a potential election, it appears that Mercer's decided that blood's thicker than water. Which is oddly heartening in a way.

I was never a fan of Mercer.
