Points, In Order
It polls for thee, Gordon
BONG! Much drama over at Iain Dale's where unconfirmed rumours are flying that tomorrow's poll for the Guardian puts the Tories ahead by three points. UK Polling Report... erm... reports that Dale's numbers were based on interim results and the final numbers will reflect a small Labour lead. More polls filtering in tonight and tomorrow... Populus/Times, Channel 4/YouGov...
BONG! The Times, meanwhile, has got wind that maybe the Gord doesn't fancy the idea of a snap poll much after all. Labour insiders reckon it would be a bit mean asking people to vote in the dark (the clocks go back in a couple of weeks), and it rains a lot in October. Oh, and it's even worse in Scotland - dark at 3pm apparently. Couldn't ask activists and those nice voters to put up with that - no sir. Presumably none of Brown's advisors have ever experienced the wonder that is Autumn In Blighty before, because they've only just seemed to realise that the conditions for fighting an election are a bit crap this time of year. Either that or they've seen the polling returns for the marginals and they aren't looking too good. No. Couldn't be that.
BONG! Man cleared of assaulting female politician hails the verdict as a victory for justice and common sense.
BONG! Early election might not happen because nobody's drawn up the guest list yet. D'you ever get the feeling that Britain isn't really cut out for all this democratic engagement stuff?
BONG! Even if the Association of Electoral Administrators manage to get their shit on, Skipper reckons a triumphant return to Downing Street for Gord is far from assured.
BONG! Sssh! Want to know who would really win an election? Daniel Finkelstein consults the Oracle. Or "Facebook" as she is now known.
BONG! The inner-workings of the Broon sanctum investigated at Coffeehouse.
BONG! The Labour Humanist has a pop at those who use the freedom of speech to limit others' ability to exercise that right likewise.
BONG! Not strictly a politics story, but I want to ask this of Westmonster readers: is this possibly the finest headline in the entire noble history of the fourth estate?
