How socialism works

tony benn.jpgSo, Tony Benn wants to be selected for the unwinnable Conservative seat of Kensington. What that man will never cease to do to bolster his own self-importance, er, represent the cause of the common people, eh?

Last week came the news that some seventeen year old - who just happened to be a granddaughter of the self-styled saviour of the Party - was selected to fight the seat of East Worthing and Shoreham. RecessMonkey claimed, rather nauseatingly in Westmonster's view, that this would be a Good Thing because, well, she is a Benn. Niece of Hilary, granddaughter of Tony, great granddaughter of William (also an MP), and great-great granddaughter of two further MPs.

Two questions: first, why did Labour get rid of the hereditary principle in the House of Lords in the first place if they're going to allow it to continue in the Commons; second, isn't it a bit rich given this to criticise David Cameron for being a lightweight posho if any berk with the right moniker can advance faster than the proles in the so-called party of equality?
