On last night's Question Time Harriet Harman announced that she disapproved of the way Prime Ministers "simply choose and swish up to Buckingham Palace and get the Queen to decide on a general election." Nice timing, Harriet.

One can only assume that this line of thought was not cleared with the Gord beforehand, and speculation is already mounting that the collection of popping sounds emanating from the Downing Street area is Brown literally exploding with rage.

Curiously, Harriet appeared to be labouring under the delusion that the PM had to consult with the police in order to call an election. Is there something she knows that we don't about the extent of our security legislation?
