There's plenty Westmonster likes about Cherie Booth - not least her delightful habit of inducing mild apoplexy in commentators from our more right-wing organs of record who reckon that the job of a woman in public life is to remain silent, be fruity at all times, and not have a brain.

Unfortunately, her unpopularity extends further than these traditional bastions of female propriety to places such as the Guardian's Comment is Free, where rather inadvisedly she's penned a piece entitled "Don't let culture be an excuse for demeaning women." It's a red rag-bull interface, people! Oh, and Iraq gets mentioned in comment four; not a record by any means, but impressive nonetheless.

How many decent wives would continue living with someone who has the blood of many thousands of people dripping from his hands, who has destroyed the rights of Iraqi women, and who now wants to bomb Iran? icas

Translation: "you are your husband's bitch and therefore defined entirely by him. Woman, know your place!" Lovely comment on an article about, uh, demeaning women.

This is another of those ridiculous articles based on feminist prejudice and myth...the reason women earn less than men is because of the choices the women and men make, not because of sexist discrimination by male employers.
