BONG! Andrew Rawnsley speaks up for the worst job in politics: namely being the leader of the LibDems or aspiring to the position. "So bitterly frustrating is the role," sympathises Rawnsley, "it's little wonder that Liberal Democrat leaders are driven to drink, depression and despair." Or rent-boys, phone-sex, and Sian Lloyd, if we were feeling like being uncharitable.

Correction: Westmonster confesses she's still not gotten over the Canada Act of 1982, and as such is not even remotely au courant with Canadian politics. This post, in its original incarnation, accidentally referred to The Hon. Stéphane Dion, Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and, thus, Leader of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition, as a "female politico." While Westmonster finds Canada, and Canadians, "cute," (in the sense your neighbour's new baby is "cute"), she still regrets this error, and appreciates the tact and aplomb with which Werner Patels pointed out her error. Barring the unlikely event that some actual news comes out of Canada, Westmonster will stick to topics she's more comfortable with.
