Ministry for Administrative Affairs
Back 2 Skool
Whilst the kids have been back at their various educational institutions for a month, our Members of Parliament will return from their summer holidays tomorrow. Yes. The middle of October.
This week's business can be seen in full here.
Oral PQs
- Monday - Work and Pensions; Leader of the House (usually Thursday); House of Commons Commission
- Tuesday - Foreign and Commonwealth Office
- Wednesday - Wales; Prime Minister
- Thursday - Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform; Minister for Women and Equality.
The House isn't sitting on Friday so no Private Members' Bills but Alan Michael has a Ten Minute Rule Bill on Wednesday on Microgeneration and Local Energy.
Harriet "I Am A Woman" Harman is doing her thing as Leader of the House on Monday instead of Thursday this week. However, one of the 39283749 jobs given to her by the PM so he wouldn't have to make her the Deputy PM because she's an excellent politician is the Women and Equality brief. So Harriet fans will have the opportunity to see her at the dispatch box twice in four days. Easy, boys!
Important stuff
- Comprehensive Spending Review: Alistair Darling presents the pre-budget report and comprehensive spending review on Tuesday. In the aftermath of the Tories' announcements on tax last week and their impact on polling in the key marginals, expect the atmosphere in the Chamber to be downright saucy.
- PMQs on Wednesday: Gord and Dave face each other for the first time since July in the immediate aftermath of Chickengate.
- Opposition Day on Wednesday: Westmonster can't see which party's turn it is to decide the motion this week, but whoever it is, they'll have plenty of ammunition.
May be of interest
- Keith Vaz has an adjournment debate on 10th October re: proposals for a written constitution.
- Second Reading of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill on Monday which is, by Westmonster's calculations, the 4000th criminal justice bill introduced by the comrades since 1997. You'll also notice that it contains a carry-over motion... erm... no need for that any more.
Early Day Motion insanity
Bob Spink's motion on how the Beeb are a bunch of pinko lefties has gained nine signatures, all from Conservatives, with one exception - naturally, Kate Hoey. Lindsay Hoyle with a motion that's more interesting than it sounds on "Red Tractor Week." You really do learn something new every day, don't you?
