While You Were Sleeping

Another Manic Monday

  • Overheard in the Imperial bar, Blackpool, was a woman with the poshest voice ever declaring, "I live in the poorest part of London. There are single mothers EVERYWHERE."
  • On a related note is this article by Decca Aitkenhead on George Osborne (hat tip Skuds), which contradicts the view that Boy George is just a privileged toff whose knowledge of how the other half lives is confined to the occasional episode of Upstairs, Downstairs. Oh, how wrong we were: Osborne exclusively reveals that at school he occasionally rubbed shoulders with chaps not directly related to the Queen. Hope you had a bath and a stiff drink after those horrific encounters, George.
  • Simon Hoggart's sketch on Bojo's Conference address yesterday.
  • The Warsi BNP row rumbles on with Dave weighing in to support his beleaguered race advisor.
  • Iain Dale writes another list: this time, the top 100 most influential people on the right. Anyone want to take a bet that Dale's name won't be in the top ten? Anyone?
  • Two thirds of Britons want a referendum on the EU Treaty according to a YouGov poll in today's Telegraph.
  • Back to Dale who dangles a tantalising bit of gossip before his hungry readers: which Labour figure did an, er, Asti Spumanti in the back of a Bournemouth cab last week and had to pay the taxi driver £50 to clean it up? The suspect list, to put it mildly, must be a long one.
  • Nadine Dorries MP is writing for the Spectator Coffee House blog this week. Expect to learn a lot more than you ever wanted to about the Life And Times of Nadine Dorries.
